"Nebraska Supersonic" Breaks Fun Barrier At Omaha Premiere

OMAHA - Chuck E. Cheese didn't make an appearance at the premiere of "Nebraska Supersonic."

Unfortunately, mice aren't allowed in the Omaha Community Playhouse. But he was a gracious host at the post premiere party.

Omaha filmmaker Jeremy Lerman, producer, director, writer, and editor of "Nebraska Supersonic," a coming of age movie for male Generation X-ers, showed his film to a packed house of 600 Saturday night.

It was a homecoming for Lerman after winning awards for his film at the No Dance Film Festival in Park City, Utah in January.

Lerman, 25, showed his talent for comedy. The movie dialogue kept the audience chuckling throughout the 70-minute show.

The story involves three guys who start a delivery company. They'll go anywhere by bicycle, that is. That includes the 120 mile roundtrip between Omaha and Lincoln.

These three guys want to grow up, they're just not sure how to do it. They have many misadventures throughout Omaha, lampooning the establishment at every opportunity. There's a hilarious scene with a young woman playing the part of Warren Buffett, Omaha's most famous billionaire.

The movie is irreverent, bawdy and funny. It serves as a strong statement for Lerman's talents.

Kyle Hovorka, a high school classmate of Lerman's at Omaha Central, said all the characters were based on their group of friends.

"There were lots of entertaining, funny, crafty little scenes," Hovorka said.

Sam Wehbe of Omaha, another friend of Lerman's said, "It was fresh, brand new, Generation-X. I would call it a deluxe magnetic piece."

Lerman said he couldn't be happier after the premiere "if my family and friends are still talking to me. We'll see who throws tomatoes at me," he joked.

There were a few Nebraska notables at the premiere. John and Kate Cavanaugh brought their entire family. Susie Buffett was there. Supreme Court Judge Lindsey Miller-Lerman, Jeremy's mom, was there and so were some of her colleagues.

Miller-Lerman was credited as "production mom," because she housed and fed the cast and crew throughout the three-month shoot.

The film crowd drove a few blocks to Chuck E. Cheese, site of the post premiere party. The mechanical band of stuffed animal musicians performed for the "Supersonic" crowd. A perfect end to a silly, fun evening.
